Why do bagels have holes?

Ever wondered why bagels have holes?

It’s not just for looks. Bagels were designed with a hole so bakers and merchants could thread them onto wooden sticks or strings. This made it easy to display, carry, and sell them in bustling markets.

That little detail turned out to be genius. The hole allowed heat to spread more evenly through the dough when baking. It also allowed them to be transported in bunches, and became a street food staple long before they reached New York.

Today, we keep the tradition alive in every batch we make. Boiled, baked, and served fresh for each order. Chewy inside, golden on the outside, and yes… always with a hole.
